Convert Publisher files to PowerPoint and keep the layout

PowerPoint is the closest thing to Publisher that most people already have: you can place text boxes and pictures anywhere on the page. It's the natural home for old newsletters, flyers and classroom resources after Publisher leaves Microsoft 365 on October 1, 2026. The catch is that Publisher has no "Save As PowerPoint". Here are the ways to do it.

Option 1: PubRescue (automatic, any number of files)

Upload your .pub files, or whole folders. We open each file in genuine Microsoft Publisher and rebuild every page as a PowerPoint slide:

• The slide size matches your page size (Letter, A4, tabloid, half-letter and so on).
• Text stays in editable text boxes with the same fonts, sizes, colours, alignment and columns.
• Pictures, shapes and backgrounds stay where they were, including items from the master page.
• Text that flows across several boxes is split per box, so each box shows exactly what it showed in Publisher.

You also get a print-quality PDF, page images and a Word file, in the same folder structure you uploaded. There's a free preview first. One file is $3, and 250 files are $39.

Honest limits: WordArt and special effects become pictures. If a font isn't installed on your computer, PowerPoint substitutes one and lines may wrap a little differently. Fonts that come with Windows and Office are fine.

Option 2: Copy and paste (a few files, and you still have Publisher)

1. In PowerPoint, set Design → Slide Size → Custom Slide Size to your Publisher page size.
2. In Publisher, open a page, press Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C.
3. In PowerPoint, paste onto a blank slide (Ctrl+V) and nudge things into place.

It works, but it's slow, one page at a time, and master-page items (headers, backgrounds) don't come along.

Option 3: Via PDF

Save the .pub as a PDF, then use a PDF-to-PowerPoint converter (Adobe Acrobat and various online tools). The result depends heavily on the converter. Text often breaks into one box per line, which is painful to edit.

Option 4: Script it yourself

If you're comfortable with Python and still have Publisher, the open-source publisher_to_pptx project on GitHub drives Publisher to rebuild pages with python-pptx.
